Several vulnerabilities, including one that is critical, were recently discovered in some TP-Link Omada routers/gateways, including the ER7206 v2, and ER706W v1. In order to mitigate these, and potentially other, vulnerabilities, a firmware update needs to be installed on affected models.
CCS customers who use one of the affected TP-Link Omada routers/gateways should schedule a date and time for us to install the firmware update to resolve the vulnerabilities.
When we install the update, the router will need to be rebooted. The update and reboot may disconnect your Internet connection for up to 30 minutes.
Firmware update failures are incredibly rare, however, should the update fail for some reason, we may need to schedule a visit to your site to reset or replace the router, before network access is restored.
Additionally, if you are using the VPN feature, which allows certain individuals to remotely connect to your office from remote locations, those VPN connections will need to be updated before they will work after the router is updated.
If you are using one of these routers/gateways then getting this router firmware update installed is important for protecting the security of your network, especially if you use the VPN feature. Please let us know when we can schedule the router firmware update for a time that won’t be disruptive. Also, let any remote VPN users know that they will need to contact our office, to have their VPN connections updated, after the router firmware update is installed.
